Clinical Forum
Programme Clinical Forum
The Clinical Forum is intended for patients, coeliac societies, dieticians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants and other workers in the healthcare arena who wish to enhance their knowledge about CD. The focus will be on the translation of scientific achievements into practical solutions for patients and healthcare workers.
The first two days will cover clinical aspects of CD, ranging from diagnosis to prevention. The participants of the Clinical Forum are also invited to the keynote lectures of the International Symposium on Monday and Wednesday. These lectures will address two other immune mediated diseases: Rheumatoid Arthritis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The objective is to review the progress made in these related research fields and to connect these fields to CD.
Because of the importance of the gluten-free diet, a whole day programme on this topic is scheduled. In three consecutive sessions, state of the art information will be provided. We will look into the future: what developments are underway in this area; which new and improved gluten-free formulations are reaching the market; and, even more advanced, which processing and breeding activities are under development to eliminate CD-toxicity; and when will these products reach the marketplace? Attention will be given to the nutritional requirements of CD patients and to what extent a gluten-free diet meets these requirements. Also, the issue of compliance to the gluten-free diet will be dealt with and how this situation can be improved. What options are currently available to people that go gluten-free? Participants will receive information on the latest gluten-free product developments and testings (including oats and pseudo-cereals), on the latest developments in European regulations and on labeling.
