Programme International Symposium

The programme of the International Symposium will provide a comprehensive update on the latest scientific and clinical developments in Coeliac Disease (CD).
For each session, we have chosen the following set-up:
We invited two speakers to chair the session. The first speaker will give a presentation which should serve two purposes: (1) to provide an overview of the current status of the research on the subject that is being covered by the session; (2) to clearly identify the most important unresolved and/or controversial issues, and to indicate how to resolve these issues. After this introduction, four to six oral presentations will be given based on selected abstracts. These presentations especially enable young scientists to present their work. The second invited speaker will conclude the session with a summary and will moderate the general discussion.

Ten sessions have been scheduled covering the entire scientific field of CD. On the first day of the symposium, the diversity phenomena of the disease will be dealt with, followed by epidemiological and diagnostic issues related to biological markers. In the sessions of the second day, the diagnostics subject will be continued with small bowel imaging issues, followed by the genetics and the pathogenesis of CD. The last session of this day will focus on the latest developments in the gluten-free diet. The third day programme includes the sessions on gut inflammation, refractory CD and manifestations outside the gut, such as the occurrence of lymphoma. The last session of this day and also of the symposium will inform the audience about therapy and prevention of CD.

Besides these sessions, on Monday and Wednesday keynote lectures will address two other immune mediated diseases: Rheumatoid Arthritis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The objective is review the scientific progress in these diseases and to indicate their relationships to CD. For these lectures we invited two internationally recognized experts.
